Finance Bill 2012 – R&D Tax Credits

Department of FinanceThe Finance Bill 2012 was published on 8th February last.  The Bill gives effect to and puts flesh on the bones of the provisions announced in Budget 2012.  The main points are:

·        The first €100,000 of group expenditure on R&D is excluded from the incremental basis of calculation. The tax credit will be due on such expenditure at 25% without reference to the 2003 ‘‘threshold amount’’. Continue Reading

What is the Innovation Vouchers initiative?

If you own or manage a small limited company with a company registration number and you have a business opportunity or problem that you want to explore, why not apply for an Innovation Voucher worth €5,000?

The objective of the Innovation Voucher initiative is to build links between Ireland’s public knowledge providers and small businesses and create a cultural shift in the small business community’s approach to innovation.

Enterprise Ireland is delighted to announce that the Innovation Voucher Initiative is now running in Northern Ireland also. By linking up with Invest Northern Ireland, Enterprise Ireland can now offer voucher holders access to an additional 10 Knowledge Providers in Northern Ireland.

€350m R&D investment for members Allergan

R&D investment at Bord na Móna

We were delighted to hear yesterday of the very positive news of a €6m investment in R&D by member company Bord na Móna.  This is a significant investment as part of their ongoing innovation programme and will see the creation of 91 new jobs.  We look forward to hearing about the ongoing progress with the project and we wish all at Bord na Móna every success.  Read the full details here.

R&D Grants & Tax Credits

R&D Grants & Tax CreditsOur thanks to all member companies who responded to our recent survey on R&D Grants and Tax Credits.  The purpose of the survey was to

  • Understand the level of take-up of R&D grant schemes and factors influencing companies participating in them, and to
  • Understand the percentage of members availing of Tax Credits and the reason(s) for participating or not

We achieved a 53% response rate which was very positive and ensures that our report is representative of our members perspectives.  

We are currently compiling our report and look forward to sharing it in early 2012.

We are very pleased to announce that Denis Hayes assumed the role of Managing Director of the IRDG on 1st December last. 

With the IRDG since July 2011, Denis has over 30 years experience in the fields of research, development and innovation.  During this time he has worked for leading brand companies and been involved in a variety of new market activity, product launches and product renovation.  He has played a leading role in innovations associated with brands such as Cadbury, Yoplait, Avonmore, Kilmeaden, Heinz, Bulmers, Magners and Ballygowan.    

We know that Denis has great ambitions for the future of IRDG and wish him every success in his new role.
